MEET THE FILMMAKER
Nice to meet you!
Aloha! I'm Shanyn and I’m a wedding cinematographer based out of Maui. Aside from filming weddings, I'm a wife and mommy to my 2 little boys, Knox and Booker. I'm also a Seattle based flight attendant, a coffee addict by morning and a wine connoisseur by night.
I love Christmas, Halloween, and any occasion that calls for champagne (even if that occasion is just celebrating surviving a Monday, because #momlife. That sh*t is hard).
I live in Maui with my husband and baby boys. When I’m not serving Mai-Tais to honeymoon bound newlyweds at 30,000 feet, you can usually find me sitting on a beach, editing videos on my lanai, or in Seattle hanging out with my three absolutely adorable (and sometimes very naughty) nieces.
My love for wedding videography started after my sister got married and her wedding video arrived. We sat in front of the TV, watching ourselves on the screen. Tears rolling down our faces as she and my brother-in-law read their vows, laughing uncontrollably when my little sister was caught on camera pretending to destroy the wedding cake with her bridesmaid bouquet. We have watched that video over and over again.
Portola Studio's Philosophy
I love film's ability to capture more than just an image, but also a feeling. As a wedding videographer I believe that all love is created equally, and I strive to catch every emotion and nuance of your wedding day in a way that allows you to remember it exactly as it was the first time. There is no other movie you will ever watch quite like your wedding film. Long after the toasts have finished, the sparklers have burned out, and you’ve hand written the millionth thank you note, your wedding film will preserve all of those beautiful moments and memories. A highlight reel of the most wonderful day of your life. A beautiful film tribute starring you and your partner.
My filming style is to be a fly on the wall. I am the quiet counterpart to your photographer who will generally run the show as far as organization and direction goes. My artistic approach lies in finding the unique, authentic moments, in between snapshots, where you’re swept up in excitement and emotion. I'll catch the silly antics your groomsmen are up to while you’re getting portraits done, the adoring look your new husband gives you while you aren’t paying attention, and the ridiculous dance moves your dad breaks out on the dance floor. This day is all about you, your partner, and your love story. At Portola Studios, we will make every effort to ensure your film is everything you had hoped it would be, and so much more.
